Did you know that we are really obsessed With Aesthetics?

In this world different peoples have different habits. Some will have the habit of keeping fisheries form, some will have the habit of making large and beautiful houses, some will have the habit of making millions online, and even at their homes. I also have the habit of blogging. Similarly if you have the habit of visiting social book marking sites you will probably know how popular web design related stories are. In each and every single day you can find a list with “the best collection of free textures,” “free icon sets,” “examples of stunning typography” and so on.
I do believe that design is an important part for a website as a whole. But in fact after visiting and seeing those web design related stories that are presented around the web ad nauseam I started wondering whether or not we are obsessed with aesthetics. In general, certainly the western society is, with the fashion industry that is growing year by year. Same is the case with the eastern society and especially with Pakistan. The main reason is that the people of Pakistan are also now moving toward fashion. But here my questioning is very specific to the Internet society. The netzens, which I like to believe, are more sophisticated than the average westerner.
As I stated think, you can find evidences about that obsession for aesthetics everywhere. Note it and keep it in your mind that I am not pointing fingers here. I have been there myself. On the first day when I was creating my first blogs I used to spend several months, not weeks, tweaking the design and then neglecting the content. The main reason for this was as think that if a beautifully-designed blog would attract more readers than a well-written one. Maybe that is the case?
My reasoning might be biased because I am a functional guy. One of the things I hated the most when working for a multinational company was the necessity to wear a tie. Why? From that time to till now because I couldn’t find a logical reason behind it. Peoples wear shoes to protect their feet. Similarly they use underwear for hygienic reasons. But why the heck do you wear a tie?
Once again concentrate and focuses on our main question: do you think we are obsessed with aesthetics on the Internet? Wouldn’t it be better if we focused more on the functional aspect of things? I would like to hear what you think, as mine is not an affirmation but rather a wondering.
